09/26/2006 Opening weekend of the 2006/07 LAN season
The September/06 LAN kicked off at 9am at the University Center. Normally we don't start things this early but it was a Griz game day and we had to get started early to get parking. I got there around 10am and Ripspinner, Reader and a few others were already there and getting set up. The room was nice, good lighting, a white board, wired tables... perfect for a LAN. By noon we had 8 people and got in a few good games of 4 on 4 Counterstrike: Source. Geekess, our newest LAN goer made it in and spent the morning and early afternoon with us. Some of the guys from the Bitterroot LAN group made it in later on in the day. It was great to see all the new faces and we're certainly looking forward to seeing them again at future LAN parties. We played mostly Counter-strike: Source and Call of Duty 2 with a spattering of Medal of Honor and FEAR: Combat. We had just enough people to play all team based games. Traditionally, we've stuck to older games to accommodate everyone's hardware capabilities but this time we were able to play a lot of newer games and it was a great change of pace. As usual there were dough nuts, pop, Gatorade, chips and cookies strewn all about the room and the occasional break to go to the tail gate parties for food and fun. We had the room till midnight but Reader and I, being the old fogies that we are and not having the LAN stamina that we used to, cut out about 10:30 and the rest were still going strong at that point. We had about 12 people in all, a better turn out than we've seen in a long time and it seemed that everyone had a really good time. I'd rate it as the best LAN we've had in the last year. I got a few pictures and those will be available on the media page later today.
At the moment, the plan is to have the next LAN at either Warhawk's house in Florence, depending on his schedule, or the Lolo community center if we can work out a deal with them. Of course the Bitterroot LANers are having a get together this weekend and everyone is encouraged to go, I'm sure they'd love to have us. For our next, a date has not yet been set but we should have something solid by the end of this week. Remember, our best advertising is word of mouth. Tell your friends and co-workers, invite that guy at the coffee place that's always yacking about gaming. The more the merrier.
Good LAN everybody! See you next time!
